Objectives

The goals of this project are, on the one hand, to promote openness to an international encounter, as well as the independence of young people. Social and foreign language skills should be expanded. Prejudices were broken down through the contact between our students, who often have a migrant background. Through the preparation in Vechta and the comparison in Hungary, students learn about differences in regional energy production, technical alternatives, economic aspects and geological conditions. The global context and tasks of the European Union are made clear to them. Each participant discovers areas in which they can act sustainably on their own responsibility, even on a small scale. In addition, contact with the partner school should be maintained in order to work together on other key topics in the future.

Background

The Geschwister-Scholl-Oberschule is run by the city. Together we try to work sustainably. There is waste separation in the building, the possibility of handing in batteries, toner cartridges are recycled and the kiosk offers water for re-filling and products without packaging if possible. On our school roof there is a large solar system and our own combined heat and power plant to generate energy. In addition, sustainable topics are integrated into all teaching subjects. There are environmental groups and workshops in projects and in the optional subject area. There are collaborations with the city museum, the University of Vechta and other partners in the region outside of school to offer students everyday applications with practical aspects.
