With Erasmus we had the opportunity to carry out a student exchange with motivated students. Under our leadership, they got to know the political, social and economic structures of Norway as an exchange country and compared them with those of Germany and were able to contribute intensively and experientially to the project through increased interpersonal relationships. They had the opportunity to experience professional conditions in a political, social and economic context for themselves. In this project, we were concerned with a cultural exchange. Culture depends on the political, social and economic conditions of a nation and shapes its values and norms. Our key words were democracy and sustainability. We wanted the students to understand how important democratic principles are for us in Europe, how great the achievements of freedom are for society and the individual and therefore require active protection. The students should also recognize that a necessary rethinking of energy policy can be realized by implementing political approaches in the long term, to be accepted and lived by society.
We are a non-profit private high school in Hamburg. Individual support and personal atmosphere are important to us. As a school of diversity, we want to educate our students to be tolerant, respectful and critical people. The significance of a democratic attitude is very important to us. In order to convey and secure democratic values, an open exchange of contact within the world of states is of great importance. In our school, we offer our students the opportunity to choose PGW (Politics, Society, Economics) as their profile subject. The students in this profile are highly interested and motivated in the subject. They are taught in this subject for six hours a week. The lessons are not limited to aspects of our country but do include global aspects in order to enable the students to compare the areas of politics, society and economy internationally and to understand the global network and different dependencies. Our school is on its way to become a recognized climate school and this is one of the reasons why the areas of environmental policy and sustainability are preferred learning objects for us in the context of energy policy.
