Objectives

politikorange was a project of Jugendpresse Deutschland e.V. (Youth Press Germany) focused on strengthening media competencies and journalist skills. The project enabled young people to gain their first experiences in journalism and media sector and helped them expand and deepen their interest in politics and society. In the project they learned together, from each other and with each other. Our workshops were particularly characterized by the peer-to-peer principle, as young people with more experience assumed the leading roles during the workshop. In this way, participants without much previous experience were supported. As a team, they worked on and created e.g. blog articles, audio and video content. The specific formats and topics of the workshops depended entirely on the interests and needs of the participants. The subjects of the workshops were determined by the young people beforehand. With politikorange, we promoted the engagement of young people and offered them a space where they can express their political and societal interest and learned to better articulate their voice. The results produced by the activities, the articles, blog posts, videos, etc., contributed to diversity in journalism and the visibility of young voices. The activities created spaces for networking among young people with similar interests. In addition, Jugendpresse Deutschland e.V. also provided its own resources, such as the platform for the results (the blog politikorange as well as the website politikjam), but also the tools for networking (e.g. mailing list, Slack) and knowledge transfer. At the same time, young people took on responsibility and tried things out. In addition, the project naturally focused on the young people's media competencies. During the workshops, they were given the important journalistic and media tools and learned from and with each other. As a result of the project, a large number of contributions (texts, video content, photo reports, etc.) were produced and distributed via several channels. These contributions flowed into the public sphere and contributed to a diverse and diverse voices of youth.
