Objectives

The project aimed to develop a board game designed to introduce citizens aged 14 and above to the intricacies of food, empowering them to make informed choices on important dimensions of food. The game accommodates 2 teams of players at a time and presents 16 dimensions related to food, encouraging diverse reflections on food choices.

Background

The motivation behind applying for this project stems from the critical role of food in sustaining life, intertwined with the personal and societal challenges it poses. Beyond mere cost considerations, the emphasis on food quality and individual health persists, evolving through methods like diets and intermittent fasting. Climate fears in Europe, exacerbated by a lack of awareness about the green transition, add a sense of urgency. Addressing obesity concerns in Portugal (17.7% obese, 38.2% overweight) and Denmark's similar situation (16.5% obese, 34% overweight) underscores the necessity for intervention. The significant burden of obesity-related health expenses further emphasizes the urgency of taking action. The evident desire for information is reflected in platforms like The Fork, where 41% of users seek sustainable restaurants, and 56% consider food origin and quality. The intersection of climate crisis awareness, the surge in interest in sustainable food production, and escalating food prices presents a unique opportunity. A game encompassing the complexity of food and illustrating the consequences of individual decisions can engage a broad audience, providing a compelling solution to address these multifaceted challenges.
