Based on our experience with previous projects, we wanted to gain experience working with language stimulation, sound, and cultural heritage. We were fully aware from the start that we were newcomers to the field, so we were pretty open to how we would work with the project. The consortium was put together with a good combination of partners with expertise in children with special needs and traditional and museum education. We wanted to create a booklet to inspire teachers in schools and kindergartens to start working with sound pedagogically and technically. We also wanted to make a sound library and teaching programs for kindergartens and schools. Since the consortium, as mentioned above, is new to working with language learning, sound, and cultural heritage, Sound of Stories should also be seen as a pilot project where we could gain experience.
The inspiration for "Sounds of story" actually comes from a local project called "Lyden af oldtiden " ( translated the sound of antiquity) and another Erasmus+ project "STEAM Builders" where the coordinator first became acquainted with learning cultural heritage through sound work and instrument building with older students. During the same period, the media focussed on the fact that 33% of 6-year-old Danish kindergarten children had the vocabulary of 3-year-olds. Since the early experiences from STEAM Builders showed that the combination of sound and cultural heritage stimulated the students' vocabulary, we were curious if this could be transferred to younger students and thus help solve not only a Danish challenge, but also a European challenge.
