Objectives

The VREurope project aimed to transform language education by integrating virtual reality (VR) with multiplayer learning into a gamified educational experience. The primary objective was to create an immersive, accessible platform that enhances multilingual proficiency, cross-cultural understanding, and historical awareness for youth, educators, and marginalized learners. By linking language acquisition with historical narratives, the project provided real-world communication practice and improved learning retention. The gamification approach particularly engaged NEETs, adult learners, and non-traditional students, offering self-paced and blended-learning solutions that adapt to individual learning styles. Aligned with Erasmus+ priorities, VREurope: Advanced digital transformation by developing a VR-based learning model Promoted social inclusion by ensuring accessibility for diverse learners, including NEETs and marginalized groups. Fostered cooperation among European educators and learners through multiplayer VR interaction, reinforcing language learning in culturally immersive settings. Ultimately, the project aimed to increase language learning motivation.

Background

The VREurope project was created to address key gaps in language and culture education, particularly among youth learners, NEETs, and marginalized groups who struggle with motivation, accessibility, and practical application. Traditional language learning methods often fail to engage students effectively, limiting skill retention and cross-cultural understanding. To tackle this issue, VREurope leverages virtual reality (VR) multiplayer learning experiences to create immersive language environments that facilitate real-world verbal interaction and historical-cultural engagement. The project aligns with Erasmus+ priorities by: Enhancing digital transformation with an adaptive e-learning system incorporating speech recognition and AI-driven guidance. Promoting social inclusion through accessible, self-paced learning formats tailored to diverse learners. Strengthening cross-cultural awareness by allowing users to participate in historical events, reinforcing European identity and multilingualism. By combining VR technology, gamification, and AI-driven personalization, VREurope sets a new standard for motivational language learning and fosters collaborative, experiential education.
