The project had three goals: (1) Making the division of positions and tasks of the visitor experience department more logical. The goal was to develop a strategy and action plan that would encompass the tasks managed by the visitor experience department. We wanted to learn how the division of different positions and tasks is solved in other science centres. (2) Positive change in adult-oriented events. AHHAA has a lot of experience in developing services and programmes for students, but we have relatively few activities aimed at adults. We wanted to improve and supplement our knowledge and skills in terms of organizing and conducting activities aimed at adult learners. The goal was to learn how to better develop activities for adults, to gain knowledge about the process and technical details of their creation, to collect ideas and good examples, and based on this to increase the number of activities (and participants) offered to adults. (3) Finding new digital solutions for staff and visitors. Our aim was to find and learn about different digital solutions that would facilitate HR work and improve/enhance the visitor experience at AHHAA. We aimed to explore other science centres' digital solutions for staff and visitors.
The primary purpose of AHHAA is to promote science, technology and the scientific approach to solve common disadvantages. AHHAA aims to introduce science to everyone and encourage studying through the joy of discovery. Using interactive and entertaining methods, AHHAA tries to overcome fear and prejudice toward learning among people of all ages. AHHAA introduces science to a larger audience through numerous ‘hands-on’ exhibits, workshops, planetarium shows, science theatre performances and guided tours. We also create educational materials for learning STEAM as well as organize science-related events. The main goal of the activities planned during the project was to solve the challenges associated with changes in the organizational structure of AHHAA, to learn how to organize activities for adult learners (in the context of the science centre) and to see and learn about new digital solutions for staff and visitor experiences (which are used in other science centres). Since there is no similar science centre to AHHAA in Estonia or the Baltics, we planned to visit two different science centres in Europe - Nemo Science museum in Amsterdam and the Paris science centre.
