The overall goal outlined in the development plan of Haapsalu Viigi School is to shape our students into cooperative, capable, and enterprising individuals. To achieve this goal, we have set ourselves the task of ensuring that the school has competent, motivated staff who are oriented towards cooperation and self-development. Through our staff, we aim to enhance collaboration across different fields, stakeholders, and partners to provide students with practical and entrepreneurial education, better engage parents, and support our partners by sharing our expertise. Additionally, we have prioritized creating an innovative, resource-efficient, and safe school environment. We plan to achieve this by increasing the digital competence of staff and students, developing support services, and improving the organization of education. By implementing the project, we aimed to support the fulfillment of the objectives set in the school's development plan. Observing other similar schools and learning from their best practices through job shadowing is a highly enriching experience for our staff, providing new knowledge and motivation. This, in our opinion, will significantly contribute to achieving our set goals.
Haapsalu Viigi School is a basic school where students with mental and physical special needs study. Education is based on the national and the simplified national curriculum, across four study levels. The task of the school is to ensure opportunities for each student's development and coping in life according to his/her ability and individuality. The school offers various support services for students, and its teachers also conduct hospital learning for students from other schools who are being treated at the rehabilitation center in the neighborhood. The school also has a dormitory. Students are between the ages of 7 and 17, with those in additional or extended studies leaving school up to three years later. The school has 80 students and 63 employees. At the beginning of 2023, the School got support for the Erasmus+ project "Haapsalu Viigi School Staff Learning Mobility 2022/2023." During the project, four mobility activity were planned and carried out with the aim of improving the quality of teaching - supporting employees' digital competencies, teamwork skills, skills in using alternative communication methods, and how to more effectively integrate practical skills necessary for coping with everyday life into the learning.
