Objectives

"Do you want to know the truth" is 6 days long training course that took place in Estonia from 10 till 17 of February and was devoted to the development of media literacy (ML) and critical thinking (CT). Training course involved 13 people from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland. Initially, we had Denmark, not Poland, but we changed the partner. The importance of educating students to think critically and creatively was recognised over 2,000 years ago by Socrates, reworked in the 1950s by Benjamin Bloom, and reinforced by many modern-day educators. Critical thinking can help better understand ourselves, and in turn, help to avoid any kind of negative or limiting beliefs, and focus more on strengths. Being able to share thoughts can increase quality of life The fact is this: young people today receive nearly all their information through popular culture - mass communication. Analyzing mass communication is a set of skills essential for survival in today's society. If we do not learn to control the mass communication that dominates our world we should expect that it will (continue to) control us. We analysed the information we got and understood that there are different causes leading to these problems. One of those is a lack of effective tools and workshops on critical thinking and media literacy education among youth. We decided to make this training course to address those issues and to have a positive impact on youngsters and their community. The topic of media literacy has become particularly relevant today. After the start of the war, it became clear that not everyone has sufficiently developed skills to think critically, to devide opinions and facts in the news, not to succumb to propaganda, and so on. Needs: ● Young people- ability to analyze information and evaluate it in social media. ● Youth workers- skills and knowledges for supporting anf teaching youth about this topic. We set following aim for our project: To increase critical thinking skills youth workers through learning about tools and methods to improve media literacy and critical thinking and by creating tools and workshops which later would be used in local communities. Objectives: ● To increase CT and ML skill among participants of TC; ● To improve quality of youth work in partner organisations; ● To promote active citizenship and understanding of democratic processes through knowledge on CT and ML; ● To create tools and workshops about CT and ML for youth which can later be applied at local communities; ● To fight fakes, propaganda, prejudice, misinformation; ● To improve knowledges of methods "fact checking".
