Objectives

Our main objective was to increase the knowledge and practical skills of AED use and first aid of adults of Estonia and Czechia and though different project processes to learn from each other different methods and collect ideas how to make teaching of those topics more effective. According to the Systems Saving Lives, everyone and everything is an important link to survival. The Guideline was approved by the ERC General Assembly in 2020. The goal of saving more lives relies also on the education of people. Our partners long term objective is to make changes in the society so that people would know about AED machines and would be ready to use them if there is a need. We wanted to fulfil the third mission of higher education institutions - contribute to the social development of the regions in which we operate, by transferring knowledge and technologies to society at large. Same time we wanted to support idea of common values, civic engagement and participation. Project has invited to active citizenship and lifelong learning. It is important to turn attention to the fact that each person has social engagement. Every person can save live.

Background

The European Parliament has published a written declaration recommending that all member states adopt common programs for the training of people and implementation of AEDs in public places. Project partners are interested to help their states, Estonia and Czech, to move to those targets. Partners of this project know that the population in Europe is ageing, and the rate of cardiovascular diseases is increasing. Especially, people living in rural areas face additional challenges, because the accessibility of health care services is poorer in rural areas than in cities, thus affecting their life expectancy. Regarding the fact that knowledge diffusion happens in certain geographical proximity, it is necessary to provide knowledge and training for people who are living in country areas, because health care education centers and hospitals are not located in rural areas. Many people don’t know about AED and those who know afraid use AED as they think they can worsen the health of the victim. Therefore, in this project we aim to raise our organizations staff experiences about the teaching methods of AED and at the same time give the local population the confidence and civic courage regarding when and how to use AED.
