Objectives

Our primary goal was to enhance the green and digital knowledge of electricians through the targeted vocational training. We wanted to ensure that the participants of the seminars will be familiarized with the smart home concept, and combine system such as photovoltaic panels, EV charges, and smart automation tool within residential environments. At the same time, we aimed to strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions in Greece and Turkey by exchanging long term knowledge and regional integration.

Background

We applied for this project in response to two major needs currently merging in Europe, the green energy transition and digital transformation, by implementing vocational training for electricians. Smart homes are key to advancing both transitions, supporting greener lifestyles and increasing comfort through smart energy management and automation. To realize these benefits, electricians must be retrained in smart home concepts, renewable energy technologies, and automation tools. This need is especially urgent in Southeast Europe, where most electricians have mostly conventional training and technological adoption remains low. With this project, we aim to address: -A skills gap in the electrical workforce regarding the integration of renewable energy systems (e.g., photovoltaics, EV chargers) and automation in residential buildings. -A regional development challenge, targeting Southeast Europe, where vocational training and tech adoption lag behind the EU average. -Environmental and digital priorities in line with EU goals, by fostering green practices and enhancing digital readiness.
