STREATER aimed to build the digital readiness of theatre professionals by equipping them with the knowledge and tools to organise and deliver live-streamed performances. We wanted to modernise vocational education in the performing arts, strengthen links between training providers and the labour market, and empower small and mid-sized theatres to adopt innovative practices. Our goal was to ensure theatres could not only survive but thrive in the digital age, offering inclusive, accessible performances to diverse, geographically dispersed audiences. We also aimed to promote cross-border collaboration, sharing expertise and good practices throughout Europe.
We applied for the STREATER project to respond to the urgent need for digital transformation in the theatre sector following the COVID-19 pandemic. Many theatres turned to live-streaming to stay connected with audiences, but lacked the necessary skills and resources to do so effectively. Existing vocational education offered little to no training on this. Theatres needed to adapt quickly—actors to perform for cameras, designers to think digitally, and technicians to handle broadcasting tools. Our project addressed this gap by creating learning tools and training activities tailored to these needs, helping theatre professionals across artistic and technical roles modernise their practice and reach broader audiences.
