The project was first initiated by group of Finnish youngsters, who all had friends or older siblings that had taken part in Erasmus Youth exchange previously and this group had heard their experiences and wanted to make their own project. All of the participants are with fewer possibilities, having immigrant background and belonging to minority in their own society. Most of the group is also muslim. They face a lot of discrimination and racism because of their religion and ethnicity. With the group we had long discussed topics such as inequality and racism and gender roles that still stick firmly especially in their communities. Media often wrongly links harmful cultural traditions such as female genital mutilation with religion and also represents islam in very negative connotations. Also the current situation in Europe with Ukraine crisis has brough up more and more discrimination and hate and racism and our group wanted to find ways of building bridges between people with different religion and background and to find common understanding about the importance of democracy, equality and human rights. Now more than ever we need to ways of bringing hope, respect and love for each other and strengthening these European values and understanding their importance for better future. We also wanted to open our own minds, learn about our own prejudices and develop skills that would benefit us all in the future. Our group wanted to find another organization that shares our interest for equality and same values and we are confident that with these similar interests we will make amazing learning experience for us all. Our objectives were created by our participants and their own expectation for the project. Our objectives for the project were: - having fun while learning new skills in Erasmus+ key competence areas - learning about new culture, language and religion - improving the communication in English - gaining new understanding and viewpoints about the topic and one’s own values - giving insight into young muslims’ life in today’s Europe - understanding and breaking one’s own prejudices - finding ways of improving equality and fighting discrimination - learning to realize YE in sustainable manner - promoting healthy lifestyle
