Objectives

By implementing the Skillsbridge project, we aimed to significantly enhance the employability and career readiness of vocational education and training (VET) students in the games industry. Our primary goal was to bridge the skills gap between educational outcomes and industry requirements, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the specific skills and competencies demanded by employers. We developed an innovative online application for students to assess their current skills and identify areas for improvement, aligning their capabilities with industry standards. Additionally, we aimed to empower students to create effective portfolios that showcase their talents and attract potential employers or clients. Another major objective was to foster essential 21st-century workplace skills such as self-regulation, communication, resilience, and teamwork, integrating training modules to help students develop these soft skills. Our ultimate goal was to enhance the overall quality and relevance of VET education, increasing student engagement and motivation to better prepare them for the modern workforce.

Background

We applied for the Skillsbridge project to address critical gaps in vocational education and training (VET) for students, especially those in the games industry. Modern education systems often fail to keep pace with the rapid evolution of industry requirements, leaving graduates underprepared for the workforce. This disconnect forces employers to invest heavily in reskilling and upskilling new hires, which is resource-intensive and inefficient. The project specifically targets the games industry, where the project partners have extensive experience and have observed a consistent trend of students lacking both technical and soft skills required by employers. Our goal is to bridge this gap by aligning students' skill sets more closely with industry needs. We aim to equip students with the tools to assess their skills, enhance their self-promotion through effective portfolio creation, and develop essential 21st-century workplace skills such as communication, resilience, and teamwork. By implementing Skillsbridge, we address the urgent need for a more relevant and engaging VET curriculum. Our approach ensures that students are not only job-ready but also motivated and well-prepared to meet the dynamic demands of the industry.
