The EU(r)Write! project aimed to address critical needs in school education, recognising the interconnected challenges of societal sustainability and the sustainability crisis in journalism. It sought to address issues such as climate change, inequality and misinformation by equipping students with media literacy, ethical journalism and critical thinking skills. The declining state of the journalism industry, characterised by misinformation and declining public trust, indeed calls for urgent intervention. By promoting awareness, skills development and intercultural communication, the EU(r)Write! project contributed to improve the quality of journalism education in the targeted secondary schools. The creation of a common platform, including interactive modules and digital tools, enabled students and teachers to build sustainable newsrooms, and to build such newsrooms in the future, foster collaboration and combat fake news. Ultimately, our application aligned with the imperative to cultivate socially responsible citizens capable of addressing contemporary challenges through informed and sustainable journalistic practices.
