Objectives

Our project aimed to foster environmental awareness, promote sustainable practices, and integrate innovative teaching methods into school curricula. Our primary objective was to equip students and teachers with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to address pressing environmental challenges such as climate change, waste mismanagement, and biodiversity loss. We sought to strengthen the connection between students and nature by implementing practical, hands-on learning activities, such as permaculture gardens and waste management workshops. Another key goal was to promote inclusivity by ensuring the active participation of disadvantaged and special needs students, fostering equality in education. Through transnational collaboration, we aimed to exchange best practices, enhance professional development for teachers, and develop a unified European approach to environmental education. Ultimately, the project sought to inspire behavioral change, create sustainable school environments, and empower participants to take an active role in protecting the planet.

Background

We applied for the "Nature's Footprint" project to address the growing need for environmental awareness and sustainability education in our schools and communities. Environmental challenges, such as climate change, pollution, and the loss of biodiversity, have become pressing global issues that require immediate action. We identified a gap in our educational systems regarding practical, hands-on environmental education, which is crucial for fostering lifelong sustainable behaviors in students. This project aimed to equip students and teachers with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to actively contribute to environmental solutions. By focusing on activities such as permaculture gardening, waste management, and carbon footprint reduction, we sought to instill a sense of responsibility toward nature and encourage innovative problem-solving. Additionally, the project addressed the need for inclusivity, ensuring that disadvantaged and special education students could participate equally. Through transnational cooperation, we also aimed to exchange best practices and strengthen European educational networks to promote sustainability at local, regional, and international levels.
