The main objectives of this project were to lay the groundwork for creating sustainable, smart green cities by engaging youth in leadership roles and fostering collaboration between municipalities and young citizens. While the project did not initially focus on technological solutions, it aimed to build a foundation for future projects that would integrate technical innovations. The specific objectives were: -Engage municipalities in developing sustainable smart green cities: The project sought to encourage local governments to collaborate with youth in shaping urban areas that align with green principles, sustainability goals, and climate change action. -Create a network of independent, self-sufficient youth-led NGOs: We aimed to empower young people to form and manage their own NGOs, ensuring they can lead projects, apply for funding, and coordinate efforts for future sustainable initiatives. -Raise awareness among young citizens about the importance of smart green cities: The project sought to inspire young people to take ownership of their urban environments, understanding the role they play in building sustainable cities and contributing to green solutions.
We applied for this project to address the pressing need for youth empowerment in tackling climate change and promoting sustainable urban development. The project aimed to connect municipalities with youth communities, enabling young people to actively participate in shaping the green future of their cities. The core needs we addressed included: Youth Engagement in Environmental Action: Young people often lack the platforms and opportunities to contribute to sustainable urban planning and climate change solutions. This project provided them with the tools, resources, and support to actively engage in these critical areas. Municipal Collaboration: Municipalities needed guidance and partnerships to incorporate youth perspectives into their sustainability plans and urban development strategies, particularly in light of the European Green Deal and Agenda 2030 goals. Green City Solutions: Cities are facing increasing environmental challenges, and there is a need for innovative, youth-led solutions to make cities more sustainable. The project focused on fostering green city networks that engage youth in creating smart, sustainable cities. Through this project, we aimed to bridge the gap between local governments and youth.
