The province aimed to develop the professional and general competencies of its staff and volunteers through training and experience abroad. The planned programmes focused on priority areas of action to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to fulfil the growing responsibilities of the organisation. We planned to carry out 30 mobilities. Within these, 8-16 staff would have participated in professional training covering key areas for our activities. The plan was to train 8-16 staff in professional courses covering key areas for our activities. In addition, our plans included the participation of 4-6 people in a one-week international internship programme, where participants would learn good practices in a specific field of expertise. Another important objective was to develop the English language skills of back-office staff. We therefore planned to involve at least 8 to 16 staff in two weeks of intensive language training abroad, which would have led to measurable improvements in their language skills. The programme was intended to build international contacts in order to integrate the knowledge and methods acquired into the organisation's activities.
The Hungarian Province of the Society of Jesus (the legal entity of the Hungarian Jesuits) is active in the fields of education, adult education, social dialogue, culture, pastoral care and mental health. In the period from 2020 onwards, the pandemic, war and the energy crisis have brought major challenges. COVID-19 constraints have significantly hampered education, faith and relief activities, which have required rapid adaptation and capacity building, but have not been accompanied by adequate human resources and organisational development. The expansion and complexity of tasks, the greater involvement of volunteers, brought new coordination challenges, while communication channels also needed to be improved. Organisational development and adaptation also required the development of professional competences of staff, international experience, learning from European good practice, the development of foreign language and professional competences, and the identification of collaborative partners.
