Improve the quality and inclusivity of our educational provision with innovative pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning. Increase our knowledge of cultural heritages of other countries as part of the spirit of international mindedness. Establish strong relationships with other educators across Europe to share best practice and improve our teaching skills.
As educators, we need to show our students and staff how they can benefit from diversity while emphasising that the rewards of such can only be reaped through a spirit of inclusion. Villiers School ‘strives to foster a safe and inclusive culture with equality at its heart so that diversity can flourish’. Following an ‘Inclusions Lab’ survey, the school identified areas which the school needed to work on. This academic year, a whole school approach is being taken whereby all subject departments need to consider approaches that they can take to tie EDI into their schemes of work. Teaching Cultural Heritage helps to develop European Citizenship competencies in students, to educate them to understand the importance of an intercultural approach to life. It is connected with all subjects in the Irish curriculum. Learning how Cultural Heritage is taught in other settings would help teachers be more equipped in developing their schemes of work and promote future collaboration.
