Objectives

The broad objective of the whole project were to: 1. Learn about quality assurance systems and the implementation of qualifications frameworks in European VET institutions 2. Improve digital capacity for practitioners 3. Explore and learn about inclusive pathways for learners. 4. Inform the development of QA systems in KWETB Through the project, we wanted to enable participants to become more aware of the possibilities of European activities, and to have some experiences that may influence changes to their own practice, and their engagement in organisational change, for example, in the introduction of the KWETB Quality Assurance Framework and the development of integrated colleges.

Background

Located on the east coast of Ireland, in the province of Leinster, KWETB serves a population of 403,625 (2022 national census), with 34% aged under 25l 58% employed; 5% unemployed; and 7% working in the home. In 2022, KWETB provided FET to 15,198 people aged from 16 years to 90 years. 30% of those learners achieved a basic level of education previously,.. 38% had reached intermediate level, and 32% advanced level. KWETB offers full- and part-time FET programmes, and upskilling opportunities for employees. through class-room based learning; work-based learning and apprenticeships. 300 staff deliver programmes of FET and 50 non-teaching staff support this. This project addresses the FET Strategy goal of integration of FET services and quality assurance systems to underpin the delivery of high-quality programmes of FET in the ETB. We aim to provide accessible learning pathways and a coherent, integrated system and curriculums for vocational education and training, underpinned by an integrated QA system, learner support system and Learning Enhancement and Development (LEAD) Unit.
