Objectives

The main goal was to enhance the skills of professionals supporting social skills development in autistic youth through VR-based tools. Specific objectives included creating innovative methodologies to train professionals and developing communication strategies to build family trust in using new technologies. The project aimed to improve training effectiveness by 60% and enhance trainers' communication skills by 50%. Further goals included increasing the appeal of vocational training related to autism support, promoting innovative methods, and encouraging intercultural dialogue among partners. Ultimately, the project sought to foster sustainable impacts by improving inclusion pathways and raising awareness about autism and technological advancements in education. The achievement of these objectives was also meant to establish a framework for future actions and collaborations within and beyond the consortium.

Background

The project was submitted to address specific needs identified through a context analysis conducted with stakeholders. Professionals working with autistic youth require innovative methodologies to support social skills development, while families often hesitate to trust professionals due to a lack of confidence or information. Scientific studies, such as those from the “University of the West of England Bristol” and the “Blue Room” research in Newcastle, demonstrate significant improvements in social skills through virtual reality (VR). The project aimed to tackle these challenges by introducing VR tools and effective communication strategies. It also aligns with European priorities to innovate vocational training, enhancing the quality and appeal of educational offers. Additionally, the project sought to develop scalable and replicable tools, promoting greater social and professional inclusion. By fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing, it supported local awareness of European values and the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ program.
