Objectives

The Prometheus project identified the 12 main soft skills for employability, selecting those essential for developing social and organisational behaviour. Subsequently, it provided the community of VET and VET-C trainers with a Portfolio for the development of these competences, aimed at enhancing the employability of young people in disadvantaged situations. The Portfolio includes training modules to improve young people's interpersonal and organisational skills, formalising informal learning and raising awareness of effective behaviour. Furthermore, the Portfolio was validated and promoted through testing, evaluation and promotion actions at national and European level. The project also increased the European dimension of collaboration between partners by promoting tools for developing social competences at European level. Prometheus addressed 3 priorities, helping the VET and VET-C sector to: 1) offer training more aligned to market needs, 2) promote inclusion and improve the employability of those from disadvantaged backgrounds, through the use of innovative tools such as Metacognition and Collaborative Learning, 3) bring innovation to the VET sector.

Background

The Prometheus project focused on the development of personal, social and learning skills, which are essential for the employability of young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. It emerged from the need of companies to find new recruits already adapted to the working environment, equipped not only with technical skills, typically imparted by in-house training, but also with transversal skills, such as relational-organisational skills. These skills, defined in 2018 by the Council of the European Union as key competences for the future, include the ability to manage relationships and organisational behaviour effectively. The project sought to shorten the time it takes for young people to develop a mindset appropriate to the social and organisational behaviour required at work. Particular attention was paid to young people from distant or disadvantaged cultural and social backgrounds, for whom it is more complex to recognise and implement appropriate social behaviour. Inspired by Prometheus, who in Greek mythology brought fire and knowledge to mankind, Prometheus aimed to instil these vital skills in the VET and VET-C sector, recognising their fundamental value for employability.
