The project aimed to improve the quality of tourism services for elderly people by fostering innovation, awareness and competence among SMEs and social economy operators. Specific goals included identifying and sharing best practices, elaborating inclusive tourism guidelines, and developing a training module for professionals. The broader objective was to empower elderly individuals, promote their autonomy, and create local systems that can respond to their needs through sustainable and inclusive tourism offers.
The INSIT project was born from the need to promote social inclusion and the quality of life of older people, who are often excluded from tourism experiences due to lack of adequate services or digital skills. Solco Città Aperta and its partners identified the opportunity to intervene in a rapidly growing sector – silver tourism – by creating inclusive services that address the specific needs of elderly tourists. The project aimed to overcome the perception of the elderly as passive service recipients and promote their role as active, autonomous citizens with the right to quality leisure experiences.
