The objectives the project aimed to achieve: *Raising awareness about the importance of creating an inclusive classroom community *Educating children on the value of diversity and promoting acceptance of differences *Enhancing the inclusivity of children with various backgrounds and abilities in the classroom *Raising students’ awareness of diversity and laying the foundation for a generation that does not divide people based on their differences *Reducing instances of bullying and discrimination *Promoting the principle that everyone deserves equal access to education *Breaking down barriers between "normal" students and those from different cultures or with different abilities *Equipping teachers with tools to identify the strengths and weaknesses of diverse students *Educating children on how to communicate effectively with peers of different backgrounds *Raising awareness of teachers’ mental health challenges and providing resources to manage stress when working with diverse students

Background

The primary motivation for initiating this project was the announced inclusive education reform in Lithuania and the expressed need of teachers who felt unprepared for these changes set to begin in the 2024 school year. Our goal was to equip teachers with the necessary materials and tools to adapt effectively. We chose transnational cooperation to enable each country to learn from one another, drawing on methods and solutions developed or applied elsewhere. For instance, Spain was transitioning to a model of inclusive education, while Romania aimed to modernize its system by increasing access for children with disabilities in mainstream schools. The need for this project also arose from the sudden influx of immigrant children across Europe, following the invasion of Ukraine. These students, including those from other conflict zones, presented new challenges for educators. This project addresses the issues faced by vulnerable children (immigrants, children with autism spectrum disorder or physical disabilities), aiming to create inclusive, safe, and diverse classrooms by enhancing teachers' knowledge and providing the tools necessary to build such environments.
