Objectives

The general objectives of the project were the following: 1. To build the capacity of youth workers to use Mobile Augmented Reality to teach young people on how to address climate change and youth unemployment. 2. To develop innovative quality resources for youth workers to promote green skills. 3. To increase awareness about the significance of climate change to young people with fewer opportunities via the Digital Escape Rooms. 4. To develop green and digital skills of the youth in the labour market via the GreenYOU Curriculum. 5. To build the competencies of youth workers and eventually young people to be digitally competent in the new green era.

Background

Youth workers, organisations, and young people must critically address climate change and develop green skills needed for the growing green economy. With 100 million green jobs expected by 2030, the transition offers vast opportunities. GEO-6 for Youth highlights green and digital skills among the top 6 for future careers, especially with new technologies addressing environmental challenges. To build these skills, tools like Augmented Reality should be used. As labour market demands evolve rapidly, young people often lack the necessary knowledge, making AR a valuable tool for improving green and digital skills and boosting motivation toward a sustainable future. Youth represent the future workforce, and green transition will significantly affect their livelihoods. They face growing environmental challenges and rising unemployment, which worsened after COVID19. For sustainable and inclusive transition, countries must invest in youth training to meet the demands of new green jobs. Marginalised youth especially need both environmental protection and social equity. This project aimed to support youth organisations in creating innovative, interactive tools that build green skills and inspire young people to engage in green transition.
