Objectives

Our main objective was to empower young migrants through entrepreneurship education, with a particular focus on patenting and innovation. We aimed to create a comprehensive support ecosystem by setting up six education hubs in partner countries and online. These hubs provide support on business development, innovation protection and funding opportunities. We also trained 30 youth workers, providing the knowledge and skills required to educate and support youth migrants. The main objectives included the development of a Guidebook on establishing the Educational hubs, Guidebook with manual “Establishing hubs and day-to-day activities for empowering entrepreneurship by, with and for migrants”, containing competency framework for youth workers and educators, Educators guide with pedagogic methods for delivering similar courses and Educational online learning modules of a course for young migrants. In addition, we aimed to share 42 migrant stories and produce a documentary to inspire and inform the target group. In addition, the project aimed to promote the long-term integration and employability of migrants, to improve trans-sectoral cooperation and to develop sustainable, adaptable educational tools for use across the EU.

Background

With the PatENT project we addressed the challenges young migrants face in accessing entrepreneurship opportunities and the patenting system in project countries (Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, Ireland and Portugal). Young migrants often have innovative ideas due to their multicultural background, but face legal, language and knowledge barriers that limit their opportunities to realise their entrepreneurial potential. High unemployment, low financial independence and limited representation in leadership positions further push them aside. There was also a clear lack of existing educational tools, training and youth work practices to support this group in the area of patent entrepreneurship. Through surveys and focus groups with youth workers and migrants, we identified a strong need for structured support systems such as education hubs, accessible learning materials and trained educators who understand the unique challenges faced by young migrants, and with the PatENT project we aimed to respond to these urgent and clearly defined needs.
