Objectives

We wanted to 1) promote the initiative of senior education in Latvia, strengthening the digital, research, INTERNATIONAL cooperation and pedagogical skills of adult educators by introducing modern recognition and validation of competences in lifelong learning of adults and 2) develop and strength the international and national cooperation network of senior learners and educators. Our goal is the adaptation of the curriculum for seniors in the acquisition of basic skills and the recognition and validation of already existing competencies of seniors in Latvia in order to provide quality lifelong education to senior adults.

Background

NGO Project Net has been the promoter of the Senior University initiative in Latvia since 2019. Cooperation and learning are of great importance in the development of SU with the Erasmus + support. We decided to focus on the process of recognizing and validation the competencies of senior learners. We cooperated with the organization Profisousa – Associação de Ensino Profissional do Vale do Sousa from Portugal. This organization is 1) a certified national center for the recognition and validation of adult competences; 2) a long-term member of RUTIS, a global network of third-generation educators or senior universities, as well as 3) coordinates and manages the senior citizens' education center or Senior Academy. Adoption of this new knowledge and experience was beneficial to the already started work of the association in the field of adult education in Latvia. We want edto learn, understand and create a framework for recognizing and the competencies of senior learners.
