The aim of the project is to learn the experience of the partner school on the involvement of young people in the preservation of the local cultural landscape. To be involved in preserving the values of your community, you need to understand the role of local culture in a wider context. Mobility participants learned about the experiences and opinions of local residents, the insights of environmental specialists and specialists in the protection of cultural monuments about the importance of preserving the cultural landscape and the possibilities of residents in the face of climate change and globalization, the factors affecting the cultural environment and its development, as well as compared the differences between mass culture and local community cultures. The "view from the outside" and the international dimension gained during the mobility served as an impulse to recognize and learn about the values of one's community, thus creating an opportunity to qualitatively engage in its preservation, for example, by implementing social actions, developing project works, access works in various in-depth courses.
The new reform of the educational content envisages the expansion of the boundaries of the personal experience and involvement of every student through a focus on the local community, the processes taking place in it, so the school must create conditions for this type of activities. This is the experience of the Italian partner school, because, taking into account the amount and value of cultural and historical objects, mass tourism and the destructive effects of climate change on the preservation of these objects, the educational programs of Italian educational institutions emphasize both the practical approach to solving interdisciplinary problems and the promotion of personal responsibility of every member of the community. In Latvia, the sustainability of the cultural environment is ensured thanks to the initiative and enthusiasm of individual persons/employees, but the involvement of the wider society takes place in the form of actions. In addition, the impact of mass tourism and climate change on the cultural environment in Daugavpils is visually invisible, so it is more difficult for students to see the need for personal involvement and changing habits. So it is necessary to gain contrasting experiences.
