The main objectives achieved by the implementation of this Project were to provide relevant knowledge about “Sustainable Development”, and it’s implementation in schools of the participating countries. The knowledge and good practices gained is then to be displayed for dissemination through various platforms. Results of the project are in fact to be available online for a wider audience, this increases the validity of the work done, as after the funding period it will remain a sustainable resource for the communities in European partnership. Wide dissemination increases the sustainability of the project. This main objective could only be reached by the teamwork, collaboration and support of school staff, school leaders and other educational stakeholders.
The main motivation for putting forward this project application was the need to shed a brighter light on the phenomenon of “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” through education in schools. The application submitted here was considerate of the ongoing and new-growth strategy; the document “Towards a Sustainable Europe by 2023” published by the European Union, that aims to transform EU into a prosperous society where there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050. The economic growth also plays a vital role towards this strategy. Hence this project planning presented 4 main stages: Green Schools, Green Citizenship, Green Minds and Green Life. The global objectives of the Digital-Dig Project are to work towards realizing the “The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” targeted by the UN and EU Commission. By this is was emphasized the importance of a sustainable life and our contribution to the solution of problems related to climate change. The aim to implement “Sustainable development” in Education was discussed in detail and it was decided that teaching new competences such as critical thinking, improving problem solving and decision making skills are as important as other academic subjects.
