Awareness about the European UnionEuropean identity and valuesTeaching and learning of foreign languages

Objectives

To give them the opportunity to acknowledge that they are part of a whole continent and that you have to explore all your options that are available to make a well-considered decision when going abroad for further studies. Moreover, that they are aware that being multilingual can have many benefits when going abroad. For our students it is a normal thing to be fluent in many languages, but they have to experience this advantage in real life situations and acknowledge that it is a big advantage and edge that they posses without being aware of it. It is important to implement a new learned language in a actual country where they only speak one language. To get to know a new culture and traditions. Also to acknowledge that we are more than just from an island, but that we are part of a continent. Another objective was to enrich their lives and opening their minds to take action and make use of the opportunities the European Union has to offer them being in the present and in the future as an European citizen.

Background

To bring awareness to our Dutch Caribbean students that they have more opportunities in Europe for further studies and job opportunities having a Dutch passport. To extend their horizons that they are European citizens and therefore have many advantages and rights then what they think at the moment they have.
