The project had these stated objectives and aimed to: 1. Develop a context-sensitive approach on how to promote educational insights on the prevention of conflict and peace promotion in different school contexts, empowering teachers and students to co-create learning materials. Kids’ experiences are at the core of this work. 2. Develop student-centered tools to promote peace education. Such tools will be teacher friendly, fit the curriculum and help students develop key insights. They will be available in English and all PPs’ languages. 3. Empower teachers & educators to become active promoters of peace education in all targeted areas. 4. Expand high school students’ awareness and knowledge about conflict prevention, peace promotion & peace building, motivating them to learn more and take action.
We applied for this project with the goal of leveraging our unique collection of stories, objects, and diaries from children affected by war to enrich educational practices in Europe. We recognized an urgent need to empower teachers and educators with resources that facilitate discussions around the complexities of war, the resilience of the human spirit, and the importance of peace. Our aim was to bridge the gap between historical knowledge and emotional understanding, providing educators with tools to engage students in meaningful dialogue about conflict, empathy, and reconciliation. Through this international seminar we enabled educators to bring these critical lessons into classrooms around Europe. By doing so, we aimed to foster a more informed, empathetic, and compassionate generation of students. With millions of Ukrainian and other refugees in Europe, we consider this effort to be timely and needed.
