In the past, young people in Europe had a tendency to be biased towards living in cities and had little contact with the natural environment. In order to encourage them to spend more time in the countryside and raise awareness of natural conservation, ecology, sustainable development, and environmental protection, efficient ways were needed to deal with these subjects. Therefore, activities were sought that would appeal to young people and motivate them to travel to the outdoor spaces of Europe and protect such spaces. To achieve this, photography was used to give young people a stake in their rural environment and a reason to spend more time outdoors, motivating them to protect the earth of their own countries and across Europe against environmental challenges and urban development issues such as littering or dumping of waste in areas of natural beauty. Photography was a powerful tool for this, providing youngsters with a sense of achievement in taking a good photo, allowing for easy sharing to increase visibility of the issue, and motivating them to protect their environment. By teaching youngsters the skills of landscape photography in the beautiful countryside of the host country, they were given a stake in nature and a strong motivation to want to preserve it.
