Objectives

The youth exchange was the idea of 6 young people from 3 countries who met on youth exchange program in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy in March 2022. During planning follow up activities we have been put into teams to explore common challenges in out countries and then think of solutions to be applied. With this project our main goal was to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit and initiative among young people, especially from small towns. Job opportunities for young people from small towns and villages are not many and most young people have to move to the capital or a bigger city in Northern Italy to look for career opportunities. However, the majority of girls stay in small towns, get married or work unskilled jobs, as women in countries like Italy and Bulgaria are much less likely to become entrepreneurs due to various factors and there are still quite strong gender roles. With this project, we aimed to introduce young people to entrepreneurship, the skills and attitudes needed by every young person to become an entrepreneur, to foster a sense of initiative and activity among young people - to be searching, developing and to find an alternative in entrepreneurship in order to overcome various obstacles. In countries like Italy, Bulgaria, Serbia there is a significant difference between male and female entrepreneurs – in a lot of cases 70% of women are unpaid family workers small number are employers or business owners /Eurostat/.The gender gap in self-employment starts early. In 2018, young women in the EU were only about 60% as likely as young men to be self-employed (4.8% vs. 8.0%). Self employment rates in Bulgaria in the last years have been below the average for the EU. From another point of view, estimates show that NEETs aged 15 to 29 cost the EU economy €142 billion per year /Eurofund data/ and entrepreneurship education is key to these problems. The main focuc of the exchange was to raise awareness of gender differences in entrepreneurship and business; to provide knowledge about the process of entrepreneurship and to encourage entrepreneurial skills and mindset. The objectives of the project were: -to raise awareness on challenges young people from rural areas and especially females face when starting their own business -to present entreneurships as a tool for youth from rural areas to unlock their potential and overcome challenges they are facing - to encourage entrepreneurials mindset and skills, knowledge and competences set among participants -encourage sense of initiative and entrepreneurship among youth and empower them to unlock their potential trough entrepreneurship
