Objectives

In line with the main objective of the Erasmus Plus programme, the Life skills through Football youth worker mobility project aimed at bringing youth workers together to exchange ideas, training methods, teaching styles, and project formats to enhance the quality of their local sport and football-based community and educational programmes and activities. In particular around programmes that build life skills. The Staff Exchange – Life Skills through Football took place over 3-day sessions at Ludogorets – Razgrad allowing for a unique and diverse environment for participants to build their knowledge about life skills programmes. The overall objectives of Staff Exchange – Life Skills through Football were to promote sport as a tool for a wide range of community projects & social change; strengthen the commitment of participating organisations in the development of societal projects & activities for youth; enhance the quality & impact of local projects; create a transnational network exchanging experiences, knowledge & empowering youth capacity building; develop new integrated training models through trans-sectoral cooperation between community-engaged clubs. The need has been identified for our community-engaged clubs to be able to use football as a tool to address social issues and to deliver socially inclusive life skills programmes to disadvantaged young people within their regions. A major objective was to expand the reach of partner’s programmes to include multiple target groups and young people from more socially diverse backgrounds; to develop the range of their programmes to include educational elements and more comprehensive life skills activities. The project aimed to provide participants with seminars, activities, practical workshops and study visits to learn best practice models and provide opportunities for them to engage with one another and improve the development of their respective programmes. The diverse programme schedule actively boosts the skills of the participants by learning from the different partner organisations and the staff being represented and equip the youth workers with competencies and methods necessary for transferring the common fundamental values of our society and life skills, particularly to the hard to reach young people in their communities. During the exchange, youth workers have shared their experiences in developing innovative approaches to promote sports and football as a tool for social development in local communities. The specific objectives of the Life Skills through Football (LSTF) project were: • To improve sport and life skills participation in youth in the community • To develop more holistic programmes to serve the needs of displaced people, refugees, migrants and asylum seekers • To build relationships with the local schools, other community centres and stakeholders to make life skills programming more comprehensive • To enhance critical thinking and media literacy • To help smaller clubs develop the basis of a life skills programme to implement in their community • To equip youth workers to build social inclusion capacity of their life skills programmes through the promotion of diversity, intercultural dialogue and respect of human rights • To create a network of organisations for sharing experiences and best practice in order to develop innovative approaches which use sport and games as a tool for social development, at a local level • To develop new training models, through cooperation between community-engaged sports clubs and NGO's to integrate football-based activities for life skills coaching to disadvantaged groups within the clubs regions • To discuss and develop a European standard in monitoring and evaluation strategies • To embed best practices into the training and development programmes and working cultures of the partners, which will equip staff, practitioners and participants with the aptitude and skills to deliver more effective social inclusion activities throughout their careers.
