Teaching and learning of foreign languagesNew learning and teaching methods and approachesBridging intercultural, intergenerational and social divide

Objectives

The project „The language is the key to success" assumed the implementation of five goals. Firstly, we wanted to improve the knowledge of English or German among mobility participants by at least one level according to the CEFR classification. Participation in foreign language courses was not only to improve teachers' language skills, but also to contribute to improving interpersonal skills. Secondly, we wanted to sensitize the teaching staff to the problems of students with ADHD and/or autism spectrum disorders and disseminate the acquired knowledge about effective methods of working with such disorders at school. Thirdly, we planned to implement creative didactic methods for teaching English and German in our school, which was to contribute to increasing  interest among students in learning foreign languages. Fourthly, the project was to prepare teachers to expand international cooperation and acquire foreign partners to implement various types of joint projects in the future. Fifthly, we wanted to organize events promoting tolerance and diversity at school and to include at least 50% of our school's students in them.

Background

Maciej Rataj Primary School No. 6 in Ostrów Wielkopolski is a school with a hundred and twenty years of  tradition. It educates a total of 520 students aged 7 to 15 at the first and second stage of education. The teaching staff consists of over 50 teachers. The concept of the school's work is focused on the professional development of teachers and the comprehensive development of students and the individualization of education. Despite our efforts, our school has not previously been able to implement any staff mobility or youth exchange projects. In addition, the growing number of students with low motivation to learn and students with ADHD and autism spectrum disorders is currently a major challenge. The project „The language is the key to success" was created out of the need to introduce changes, meet new challenges and open the school to international cooperation. Through the implementation of this project, we wanted to gain a group of competent, active and motivated staff and to be known as a European institution that cares about the comprehensive development of staff and students. We considered knowledge of foreign languages as the key to success, which allows us to achieve the goals we set.
