Teaching and learning of foreign languagesPhysical and mental health, well-being

Objectives

A student-friendly school is the mission of our institution. The well-being and health of students are our top priorities. Through the implementation of this project, we aimed to raise awareness of the impact of physical activity on the health of young people, integrate physical activity into their daily lives, improve their language skills, and overcome communication barriers in English. By carrying out project activities, students increased their physical activity and knowledge of English. They engaged in physical exercises with their peers, participated in sports games promoting outdoor movement, and took part in sports competitions that combined activity with adherence to the principles of fair play. Hiking trips and outdoor games contributed to learning about the region, its history, and culture. The active lifestyle led to improvements in their physical and mental health. The school established partnerships and teachers acquired new skills. The mobility strengthened relationships among students and between students and teachers. There was integration among participants, fostering a sense of community. The students improved personal and social competencies necessary for both private and professional life.

Background

ZSP is a school located in a small town with a population of over seventeen thousand people, situated in the central part of Poland, in the Łódź Voivodeship. From May 31, 2023, to October 30, 2024, we implemented the "Reymont +" project. The target group consisted of 30 third grade high school students. As part of the project, the students participated in a two-week mobility program in Malta. The project was a response to the needs of high school students regarding language competencies and a lack of awareness of the impact of physical activity on their health. It was a form of support for students whose financial situation does not allow them to learn a foreign language or engage in physical activities. The implementation of the project improved the quality of teaching and learning, particularly in the context of learning English. There was an increase in linguistic diversity at the school, as well as greater awareness and the ability to use a foreign language. The European dimension of education was strengthened through promoting knowledge about common European heritage and diversity.
