Objectives

Through the implementation of our project, we aimed to increase students' ecological awareness and enrich their knowledge about the natural importance of flower meadows and the role of pollinating insects that inhabit them. We wanted to make them aware that a meadow can be a beneficial and more beautiful alternative to mowed lawns and concreted yards. We wanted to give students the opportunity to explore, experience, and learn in an international environment so that they could overcome communication barriers in English, as well as shyness and the complexes often associated with being "students from the countryside." We aimed for them to gain knowledge about the culture, history, and religion of another country and to understand the diverse behaviors of people from different nationalities. We needed to enable teachers to participate in a course that would enhance their English language skills and motivate them for further self-improvement. This would help them implement e-Twinning projects in the future and establish contacts and collaborations with other European schools. We hoped this project would act as a catalyst for changes in our institution. We expected it also to enhance the school's prestige within the local community.

Background

Our organization is a public primary school that has existed for 109 years, well-known in the local community for its rich history and traditions. Although we are a small rural school, we engage in various educational projects. We place significant emphasis on environmental protection. Our Erasmus+ project promoted the idea of creating flower meadows near schools and in home gardens as friendly habitats for small organisms (bees, butterflies, etc.). Its implementation aimed to make participants aware that by creating meadows, we support wild pollinators, restore natural habitats, increase rainwater retention, purify water and soil, and prevent drought. The second goal of the project was to improve the English language skills of 10 teachers through participation in a language course. The project also aimed to motivate students involved in mobilities to learn the language, help them overcome language barriers, and equip them with practical knowledge about elements of culture, history, and religion of host countries, enabling them to understand the diverse behaviors of people from different nationalities.
