Teaching and learning of foreign languagesInclusion, promoting equality and non-discriminationBridging intercultural, intergenerational and social divide

Objectives

As a result of observation of students at our institution, attention was drawn to the need of improvig the quality of general education, with particular emphasis on learning foreign languages and addidional skills.School successfully implements its vocational education program, proven by very good results in external examinations. The same analysis indicates a huge neglect of our students in terms of communicative skills of foreign languages. This is, to some extent, due to the lack of mobility prospects and very poor motivation of students. Therefore, the international projects at school would be the basis for such motivation.Through the implementation of the project, we wanted to increase the level of key social and cultural competences. Taking into account the analysis of the environment from which our students mostly come, they are unable to provide their pupils with the perspective that comes from learning about other countries and cultures. The proposal of such a perspective also increases the prestige of the institution. The aim of the project was to deepen interests in photography, acting and design, overcoming language barriers (among students and teaching staff) as well as pro-European and ecological activities.

Background

School of Fashion Industry and Advertising educates students in the following fields: fashion industry techniques, organization of advertising, graphics and digital printing, hairdressing services. The school responds to the needs of the city and surrounding areas. The school with 100 years of experience, despite its professional profile, tries not to neglect the development of general competences of its students and deepening their interests, not only professional ones. The school provides first-grade students with additional classes in jewellry design, product design, fashion presentation, acting, photography and film and TV production. Our students include students from disadvantaged backgrounds, with specific learning difficulties, from foster families or care facilities that are unable to provide additional classes that let their participants develop their interests. The project is the school's response to the needs of students from all backgrounds, including students emigrating from Ukraine (due to the war in that region). Its aim is also overcoming all kinds of barriers, including language ones, and deepening interests that go beyond professional competences.
