Objectives

The idea behind the State of Youth 2023 project was to continue the activities that our organization undertook in 2022 as part of the KA154 Erasmus+ project with a similar title (State of Youth 2022). It was the second edition of the project implemented by the Important Issues Foundation, fully realizing the mission of our organization, which is to act to enhance the quality of public debate, addressing complex issues in an accessible and modern way. We believe that changing the current social situation is not possible through one-time actions, as achieving it requires taking on new initiatives involving a larger and more diverse group of participants. During the project's implementation, our main focus was on creating an inclusive dialogue space between young people and experts from the fields of science, business, media, and politics. By focusing on European Union values and developing participation skills in debates and discussion panels, the project aimed to increase young people's involvement in public processes and promote their perspectives in public debate. Every action taken as part of the project was based on the values underlying non-formal education. The way workshops and debates were organized, involving diverse communities from all over Poland and breaking away from classical debate formats, aimed to promote inclusion, cooperation, creativity, and innovation in thinking about public debate and social issues. Based on an analysis of the needs of young people, decision-makers, our organization, society, and drawing on our experience and evaluation of the first edition of the project, we were able to create specific goals for our project. The main goal was to create a high-quality public debate engaging young people grounded in reflection on the understanding of European Union values. We also managed to identify specific objectives, which included: (1) creating a dialogue space, where young people can voice their opinions on their important issues and reflect on their understanding of EU values; (2) understanding which values are important to young people in Poland and how they correspond to EU values and priorities; (3) developing the competencies of participants in the field of participation in public debate and public speaking; (4) promoting the perspective and priorities of young people in public debate.
