By implementing the project, we wanted to increase awareness of ongoing climatic phenomena, including desertification. This was one of the main goals of the initiative. Moreover, we wanted to promote a sense of civic responsibility for the environment. The Social Ecological Academy - Silesia against desertification also contributed to spreading knowledge about ongoing climate processes. What we wanted to achieve by implementing the project is also to inspire and activate Silesian youth to act for the environment in the place where they live. The project was also intended to be a response to the problem of desertification and understanding the impact of human activity on climate change (wasting water, over-exploitation of resources). Another goal that we intended to achieve by implementing the project was to increase leadership competences and knowledge, as well as to promote and develop structured dialogue. Our project was also in line with the goals of the Eramus+ program in terms of supporting youth education and their personal development (by acquiring new knowledge and competences). Another important aspect is that our initiative is part of the element related to establishing cooperation in the field of youth policy through meetings with decision-makers and conducting discussions on topics of interest and/or concern to young people. Thus, the Social Ecological Academy - Silesia against desertification was included in the scope of the European Youth Goals. The assumptions of our initiative were also consistent with the objectives of the campaign in the field of Youth Participatory Activities by engaging young people and supporting their participation in civil society by supporting the learning process (with particular emphasis on development of leadership competences), as well as building a space for partnership dialogue between young people and decision-makers, as well as an association of young people and decision-makers. Moreover, the project took into account the idea of Green Europe and its goals focused on the area of European integration.
