Through the implementation of the project, we aimed to influence the reduction of food waste and raise awareness among youth and society about this issue and its connection to climate change. We observed that, despite being aware of the problem, most people do not take action to prevent food waste. Our goal was to equip young people with the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills so they could actively engage in this process and promote it within their communities. The main objective of the project was to develop social and civic competencies among participants through activities related to social participation, ecology, and fact-checking. This effort was based on the belief that young people, aware of the challenges of the modern world, can become leaders of change towards sustainable development. - The specific objectives of the project included: Strengthening the potential of youth and organizations: Acquiring and deepening competencies in environmental and social engagement. Creating educational tools for working with youth to increase awareness of food waste prevention. Implementing an educational program promoting conscious consumption among young people. - Raising awareness among participants and society: Increasing knowledge about environmentally friendly behaviors, particularly in the context of food waste prevention. Developing skills and attitudes related to food waste prevention and understanding its impact on climate change. - Developing critical thinking and fact-checking skills: Disseminating knowledge on recognizing manipulation and disinformation. Enhancing fact-checking skills, crucial in an age of widespread access to information. - Social activation and participation: Increasing social engagement among recipients and developing leadership competencies in youth. Developing attitudes and skills related to social activation and participation, enabling youth to have a voice in shaping strategies and policies. - Reducing food waste: Actively involving youth in the process of preventing food waste and promoting this issue. Reducing food waste in communities and households while protecting biodiversity and mitigating the effects of climate change. - Promoting and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 4 – Quality Education: Ensuring inclusive and equal quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities. Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: Promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns. Goal 13 – Climate Action: Taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. Our project achieved these goals through: - Co-creating the project with youth and NGOs: The project was developed in collaboration with a youth initiative group, ensuring its relevance to the real needs of the audience. Participants had the opportunity to influence the project’s design by providing feedback on methods and activities. - Basing the project concept on current research and needs: The project was built on research highlighting the scale of the food waste problem in Poland and worldwide. Realizing that 70.3% of Poles admit to throwing away uneaten meals underscored the need for educational efforts. - Using modern, engaging, and activating methods: Workshops and discussion sessions with youth addressing topics like clicktivism and greenwashing. Utilizing digital tools and authentic materials to increase participant engagement. Discussions on how to reach people beyond their "information bubbles" and encourage active engagement in pro-environmental actions. - Engaging experts and representatives of NGOs: Cooperation with organizations like the Stowarzyszenie Pravda, Dietetycy org., KP Konsultant, organizacją Foodsharing Wrocław. Experts shared their experiences, inspiring youth to find their own solutions in the field of climate-related actions. - Facilitating dialogue between youth and decision-making representatives: Meetings with representatives of local governments (JST) and businesses. Involving young people in the process of co-decision-making on ecological and social policies. We also wanted to increase the influence of youth in decision-making processes by enabling dialogue with local authorities and businesses. We believe that young people have much to offer in shaping pro-ecological and social policies, and their engagement is key to building a sustainable future.
