Objectives

The aim of the project was to: - develop the knowledge and competences of the organisations participating in the project in the field of wetland protection and exchange experiences, good practices and establish cooperation in the development of effective methods for the protection of water-dependent ecosystems, - to raise climate awareness and educate the local Polish-Slovak community on both sides of the Carpathians about wetlands and the benefits of their protection, - to popularise digital tools related to ecology.

Background

Partner organisations have been working for years to protect water-related ecosystems, recognising the key role of wetlands in mitigating climate change. Creating conditions for the exchange of experiences within the project leads to an increase in knowledge about wetland ecosystems and the development of a catalogue of effective methods for the protection of wetlands and their accompanying habitats and plant and animal species of priority importance. The partners have also undertaken a joint project to share their knowledge and experience with the local community in the Carpathians – to strengthen informal adult education from organisations involved in the project and the local community on both sides of the Polish-Slovak Carpathian chain in the field of wetland protection. This is a response to the lack of sufficient knowledge about the importance of saving valuable wetland ecosystems. Low awareness in this area is particularly evident in the behaviour of the local community, which drains wetlands, often burns them or exploits valuable peat, leading to irreversible damage to nature.
