Objectives

The main objectives of the project were: 1. boosting students motivation to learn Science by: increasing the participants' awareness of importance of learning Science by presenting benefits/advances of science and proving Science helps us understand our world and then improving students performance in Science; making science attractive to young people by presenting science through mysteries, puzzles and great efforts of scientists trying to reveal them and then developing passion for Science. 2. improving students’ skills of teamwork and cooperation by doing project work, 3. increasing the participation of pupils with the greatest educational needs, including children in unfavourable situation (those with limited access to various educational forms due to geographical, economic, health and/or cultural reasons) and those with fewer opportunities, 4. promoting an active citizenship by teaching students how to live with other people creatively as well as by coping with new challenges of living together. Additionally, students developed the ability to ask questions, collect information, organise and test their ideas, solve problems, and apply what they learn.

Background

The teachers/students parents in partner schools noticed that Science is considered boring and extremely difficult by school students and they aren't motivated to learn it. But thanks to learning and understanding Science subjects the students: - can develop problem-solving skills - they learn to think logically and solve problems, - can be aware of technology - learning the basics of how certain devices work can help them develop ideas of their own and invent new technology, - can help develop literacy and language-they practice their writing skills and expand their vocabulary at the same time, - can learn team work - Science is a collaborative team exercise as it must go through a process of peer review before we can use it, - can help separate fact from fiction and create ability to make informed decisions-as a result as citizens, they can contribute more to the society in a positive and thoughtful way. Our project was aimed then at making a difference in students attitudes towards Science subjects - as they had rather negative one and they found these subjects boring, difficult and unnecessary. When we teach Science in a new, innovative way and students gain Science related-knowledge they learn the skills mentioned above.
