Objectives

The project “Iberian Music Enjoying Itself: a digital window into the oral traditions of the Iberian Peninsula” main objective was to fight the imminent disappearance of intangible cultural heritage manifestations, specifically in the case of the traditional oral manifestations existing in the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain), through the creation of a mobile application. All project partners had the same objective at heart and each had decisive roles that contributed to the success of the project: MPAGDP and GALICIA FIDDLE provided the cultural heritage knowledge expertise and CMT provided the digital technology expertise. The project ‘s objective was achieved through the creation of an open digital educational tool for interactive online learning about intangible cultural heritage that exists in Iberian Peninsula, in the form of a mobile application.

Background

The project aimed to create an open digital educational tool for interactive online learning about intangible cultural heritage that exists in the Iberian Peninsula, in the form of a mobile application, thus enabling that valuable cultural legacy in the Iberian Peninsula is not forgotten and lost forever by being digitally preserved and disseminated as a valuable European cultural legacy to its current citizens, as well as for the future generations. Through the synergy between associations focusing on protecting intangible cultural heritage in Iberian Peninsula (MPAGDP and GALICIA FIDDLE), plus an experienced organisation in the field of digitalisation, Clio Muse Tours (CMT), it was opened a “digital window” to the the Iberian invisible oral traditions and disadvantaged groups from rural/remote regions, creating awareness concerning the importance of cultural decentralisation. All partners aspired to reach wider audiences throughout Europe and educate about the urgency to preserve intangible cultural heritage, while contributing for a common sense of belonging; endorsing a Europe that welcomes and applauds a shared cultural diversity.
