As a general objective, we define the promotion of intellectual and social accessibility in/to culture, particularly by vulnerable groups at an intellectual and/or social level, contributing to their social inclusion and active participation. As specific objectives, we highlight: -diagnosis of exclusion factors in access to culture; -reflection on different models of inclusion of people in situations of vulnerability and exclusion and through culture; - understanding the role of culture in restructuring identity, autonomy, and how this can be a driver of participation, inclusion and employability of socially and intellectually disadvantaged groups; -the identification of good practices in the field of intellectual and social accessibility; -the creation of a model of intellectual and social accessibility to/in culture that can be applied in other contexts; -the formation of a “pilot group” of socially and/or intellectually disadvantaged young people, training them in the area of heritage and culture so that they can act as guides in these areas.
There are particularly vulnerable groups that continue to have difficulties in accessing equal opportunities, which leaves them in situations of exclusion and low participation. Among the barriers that limit access to society, the physical and social dimensions stand out. Regarding physical barriers, there have been very significant advances, but regarding intellectual and social accessibility, there is still a long way to go and it was on these that we focused. We therefore identified as urgent the need to define practices that promote the active inclusion of people intellectually and/or socially excluded from access to/in culture, to which we contribute through this project. We worked based on the specific needs of: debating inclusion in culture and with culture at European level; promote active inclusion; and support the qualification, training and employment of socially and intellectually disadvantaged citizens (young people), particularly in the field of culture. By responding to these needs, we wanted to undertake “a collective effort to ensure that people who have been segregated from art in general [and from society in general] are able to be part of it” (Click Museus, 2022).
