Objectives

The project aimed to create educational contexts to teach students about environmental responsibility and resource use in various settings, such as home, school or community. The objectives included increasing the environmental responsibility of 500 high school students from four partner schools, through an integrated solution combining education, infrastructure and community mobilization. It also aimed to develop the participants' skills in the circular economy and responsible use of resources, as well as improve the ICT skills of students, using digital platforms and applications. Another objective was to consolidate knowledge in the field of "green" entrepreneurship through case studies and practical activities, stimulating the entrepreneurial spirit of students. The project activities also aimed to train young people in the field of environmental protection and promote education for sustainable development in formal, non-formal and informal contexts, in order to develop relevant skills in the green and circular economy, as well as to raise awareness of social impact. The relevance of the project will materialize through the integration of the materials produced in the optional curriculum for students.

Background

The project aimed to promote environmentally responsible behavior among students at the “Alexandru Odobescu” National College. Initially, environmental activities, such as tree planting and recycling, were integrated into the “ Non-curricular School ” program, before the “Green Week” program was introduced in the 2022-2023 school year. However, these activities had a limited impact on students who had a reserved behavior. To assess the level of awareness and involvement, a questionnaire was administered to 700 students out of 920. The results showed that 40% of students are informed about selective recycling, 35% have participated in environmental activities and 25% recycle selectively. These results reflect a local reality that, in fact, is found throughout Romanian society and that costs us all, both in terms of the health of the environment we live in and our well-being, as well as materially. Combined with data on how citizens actively engage in combating pollution, such as the degree of recycling at the national level, we note that this is very low compared to other European countries.
