The main goal is to establish a connection between sustainable development goals and the curriculum for elementary schools through topics related to water, food, and environmental protection. The specific objectives are: 1. Improving the level of knowledge and skills of teachers in the field of sustainable development goals oriented towards the topics of water, food, and the environment, as well as the 2030 Agenda. Also, 2. Enhancing the ability of teachers to transfer knowledge and skills about sustainable development goals related to the topics of water, food, and the environment to students through pilot demonstrations of practical work.
Our motivation stems from the needs of teachers and their interest in linking curricula and regular school lessons with sustainable development goals. Through the questionnaires we conducted in previous projects and while writing this one, there emerged an opportunity to improve their knowledge and skills. Additionally, we aimed for more active student involvement and the expansion of their knowledge and skills. We have focused on water and food along with the environment. We live in a time when water scarcity is increasingly intensifying, more and more food is being wasted, and there are more hungry people, all of which affects the environment and exacerbates climate change. Considering that food production creates the greatest burden on water pollution, we have focused on this issue. We connected this with the fact that in elementary schools, there is no dedicated education on sustainable development, even though it is legally prescribed, but teachers do not have the materials and tools to implement it. Finally, but not least importantly, for our own strengthening as an organization dealing with these issues, fostering connections, and cooperation.
