Objectives

As part of the implemented project, we aimed to acquire new professional knowledge and methods for teaching adults, improve the language and organizational skills of our employees, and transfer and implement new solutions for modern library equipment from abroad into our environment, as we were opening a new local library during this time. We aimed to enhance the established and well-received green library and sustainable development program, and improve the integration of vulnerable groups into the local community (especially the elderly and Ukrainian women with children displaced by the war). With the new knowledge, we sought to empower our employees, who would be further motivated for more innovative forms of work, experiencing positive and multifaceted effects on a personal level, as well as in their professional and technical fields. They would share all this with other employees, enabling the library, as the central cultural organization, to operate more qualitatively, innovatively, and motivatedly in the field of lifelong, informal, and experiental adult learning.

Background

The Ormož Library is one of the most recognizable green libraries in Slovenia, striving to quickly and efficiently adapt to societal conditions and manage them in a way that meets the ever-evolving needs of both its staff and library users. We aim to be a modern, proactive library that is no longer just a place for borrowing books, but an important third space for socializing, meeting, inclusion, inspiration, creativity, and healthy living. To achieve this, we need professional, motivated staff who are committed to continuous improvement and lifelong learning, as well as educational programs and adequate facilities. Staff mobility within the Erasmus+ program (Job Shadowing in developed European libraries and quality structured courses) allows us to gain new knowledge, experiences, and insights, which we integrate into our future work, programs, and the local community. Within the project, we aim to learn from modern libraries that develop green programs, are proactive, and focus on addressing future challenges (sustainable development, digital transformation, inclusion of marginalized groups). We aim to enhance our skills, gain new knowledge, ideas, working methods in the areas of sustainable development, green literacy, and AE.
