Our first and main objective was the international exchange of ideas on cybernetic safety. This is the most fundamental objective of the project and answers the basic need that we have in our school, and that is the lack of international partnerships, issues with cyberbullying, all of which should be faced by international exchange of ideas on digital literacy/cyber safety. Since our students do not normally have funds to travel and experience life on other schools, even for a short time, they are also at a risk of cultural isolation and are therefore exposed to higher risks of manipulation in the cybernetic space. This objective was reached by the shared international brainstorming sessions of our students , through the method of large paper brainwriting and via the excursions to the individual places of interest, such as Delta Informatics Centre in Tartu, AHHAA Science Centre and others. Beyond this, the students presented the ideas they collected during their brainstorming sessions and illustrated these to their partners. Teachers also spent time discussing the basic aspects of cybernetic security especially relevant to their target groups and in conjunction with the issues faced by the students involved in the project.
Our institution is a state organised basic school in the town of Rabčice, Northern Slovakia. The founding organisation of the basic school is the town and the mayor, representing the state. Our main activity is therefore the provision of basic education (finished with the achievement of ISCED 2 educational standard) for the local population according to the official curriculum mandated by Slovak Ministry of Education. The project Safety in Cybernetic Space was designed to address the need of our students in terms of increasing their digital competences and teaching them how to behave safely on the internet. Additionally, it also developed their assertiveness, English skills and presentation skills. We chose these competences since we identified a noticeable lack of these in our institution's daily life. We also aimed to improve the internationalisation of our school, the soft skills of our students and help with the prevention of bullying in the collective.
