Objectives

The project sought to unlock the educational potential of oral histories, developing methodologies and recommendations for educators and curricula developers. “Learning for Peace” aimed to bridge the gap between historical events and personal experiences, enhancing students' empathy and understanding. Our goals focused on enriching educators' resources, promoting critical historical engagement, and fostering civic and cultural connections.

Background

The Learning for Peace project addressed the niche yet vital area of incorporating existing oral history databases into education, differing from the usual focus on students creating and publishing oral histories. This small-scale project aimed to make history education more engaging by connecting students with real-life narratives, fostering a deeper, empathetic understanding of historical events, and teaching critical lessons from past conflicts to inform future peace.
